Søle Nordic Wellness: Edmonton’s Only Nordic Spa — Rooted, Responsible, and Ready to Welcome You
If you’re searching for a Nordic spa in Edmonton, look no further than Søle Nordic Wellness—the city’s only Nordic-inspired wellness destination currently in operation.
Located in the heart of Leduc and just minutes from the Edmonton International Airport, Søle offers an immersive Nordic Circuit experience that invites you to reconnect with yourself through traditional hot/cold therapy, aromatherapy, and stillness rituals inspired by the healing wisdom of the North.
While other Nordic spa concepts have been proposed in the Edmonton area—none have successfully opened their doors. Most recently, Quebec-based Scandinave Group has announced plans to build a luxury spa on the site of the historic Mactaggart mansion, backing onto the North Saskatchewan River Valley in the Riverbend neighbourhood. But the proposal has sparked considerable controversy.
An Ambitious Proposal with Serious Concerns
Scandinave’s planned spa would be its fifth Canadian location, joining sites in Whistler, Blue Mountain, and Quebec. The company promises a “life-changing” wellness destination that will boost tourism and transform the area. Yet many Edmontonians are skeptical.
Residents of Riverbend, especially in Brander Gardens, are voicing concerns about traffic congestion, environmental disruption, and lack of meaningful public consultation—particularly with Indigenous communities. Critics have also pointed out that the spa would increase commercialization in one of Edmonton’s most ecologically sensitive areas. Local voices, including Grand Chief Greg Desjarlais of the Confederacy of Treaty Six First Nations, have highlighted the city's failure to adequately consult with First Nations before approving a project on land that borders a vital waterway.
Others question the spa’s accessibility. A basic thermal journey at Scandinave’s Whistler location costs over $160, and massages push the price near $400 per visit. That price point is a far cry from inclusive wellness—and represents what many see as a privatization of nature behind a paywall.
At Søle, We Believe in Something Different
We don’t believe healing has to come at the expense of nature, or that silence and stillness should only be available to the elite.
